Don’t Think That What You Do is Too Small
Don’t Think That What You Do is Too Small
Sometimes I feel that the things that I want to do or can do, when it comes to God’s Kingdom work, are too small. I have also spoken to other believers that also either believe that their abilities or gifts are too small or that they don’t have a gift or talent at all. But God gave each and every one of us something and if He gave it to us, then it’s useful.
I was reminded of this last night when I did my most recent episode on my podcast “Dannie Are You Okay” talking about the Python Spirit. I genuinely was not confident about doing that message. I felt like my experience was small compared to others and that I was not as well versed in the topic of deliverance as many others seemed to be. I just did not feel qualified to deliver such a message. But God told me to do it anyway and He will guide me. So, I let Him guide me. The message turned out to be 40 minutes long. I posted it on Facebook and went on about my business.
Later on that night, as I was sleeping, I began to get attacked in my dream. On about two or three occasions different dark figures (either an animal or a person) would hold me in the dream and would squeeze me as if it’s trying to squeeze the life out of me…like a snake would. Surprisingly, I was calm in the dream. I felt peace because although the grip was tight and got tighter as I spoke I knew that it could not do any harm to me. I felt the grip but I had no trouble breathing. When I got up in the morning I took authority over the spirit and any other unclean spirit that might have come in my dream, bound them, and sent some to the feet of Jesus, while others I casted to the abyss.
Why am I sharing this? Well, when the devil is attacking you after you have done some for God or in obedience to God, it means that he is very bothered by what you have just done. It means that you are on the right track and he is not happy about it. My mentor, Tiffany Buckner, always says “If the devil ain’t mad at you, he must be proud of you.”
Now, let’s look at a person who used their “small gift ” and then a person who did not use it that’s mentioned in the Bible.
Stephen
“Stephen had the gift of boldness and it clearly came from the Holy Spirit. In Acts 7:54-60, Stephen gave a speech and rebuked the people who he was speaking to and it really upset them and caused a negative and fatal reaction. The scripture states, When the members of the Sanhedrin heard this, they were furious and gnashed their teeth at him. But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, looked up to heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. “Look,” he said, “I see heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.”
At this they covered their ears and, yelling at the top of their voices, they all rushed at him, dragged him out of the city and began to stone him.Meanwhile, the witnesses laid their coats at the feet of a young man named Saul.
While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” Then he fell on his knees and cried out, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” When he had said this, he fell asleep.”
The Unfaithful Servant in Jesus’ Parable
While not a real person, the unfaithful servant was an example that Jesus gave for a reason. Obviously there were people like this who existed back then and there are certainly people like that servant who exist today. Unfortunately, they are not hard to find. That person may even be you. If it is, don’t feel bad and don’t panic. Just repent and submit to God. Let’s go over the parable in Matthew 25:14-30;
“Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his wealth to them. To one he gave five bags of gold, to another two bags, and to another one bag, each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey. The man who had received five bags of gold went at once and put his money to work and gained five bags more. So also, the one with two bags of gold gained two more. But the man who had received one bag went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money. “After a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them. The man who had received five bags of gold brought the other five. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with five bags of gold. See, I have gained five more.’ “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’“ The man with two bags of gold also came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with two bags of gold; see, I have gained two more.’ “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’ “Then the man who had received one bag of gold came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. So I was afraid and went out and hid your gold in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.’ “His master replied, ‘You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed? Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest. “‘So take the bag of gold from him and give it to the one who has ten bags. For whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them. And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ “
Both scriptures referenced in this post are from the NIV (New International Version). I encourage you to read the full chapters for both of these scriptures.
Stephen’s act might have seemed small but it made a huge impact. His testimony is in the Bible for a reason. It matters to God and it is a topic of conversation in many Christian circles and encourages many of today’s Christians to be bold in their faith. I can definitely say for myself that this is what Steven's story does for me.
As for the unfaithful servant, this also matters to God. God hates when we sit on our gifts and talents. Especially, when we do it because we think it is too small. What we are really saying to God is that He has not given us enough. It shows a lack of gratitude for what God has graced us with. Some people start off with a lot because they may either:
A. Have a greater assignment
B. Are more sensitive to His presence allowing them to receive more from Him
C. Received generational gifts and talents from they family members who followed God
D. Have greater faith, so they receive greater blessings from God
The truth is, the servant with one talent could have increased their talents just like the other servants did. Don’t be this guy. Use what God has given you, submit it to Him, and have faith that He will bless it and use it as He sees fit. After all, everything is for God’s glory, not ours.
