You Are Not Doing God Any Favors
Now this one is short and sweet but a much needed reminder for all of us...
Whether we are fasting, praying, giving, or showing kindness to others, we must realize that we are doing these things for our own good and all of this will ultimately bring glory to the most High God. But we sometimes seem to forget that God is already glorious and God will do what is in His will with or without us. We are not doing God any favors when we are obeying Him and His Word. When we think like this, we are thinking from a place of entitlement, religiousness, and pride.
This is equivalent to what the Pharisees and Sadducees believed. The evidence of this is that they questioned God instead of being submissive to Him and taking advantage of the fact that the Most High God was in the flesh standing right in front of them! They missed a major opportunity to fellowship with Him and glean from Him.
So what is the message here? If we fall into the trap of thinking that our works put us on the same level as God or makes us as holy as Him, we will miss God. How detrimental would it be to do works thinking that you will get closer to God only to miss Him entirely?
The bottom line is that God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble (1 Peter 5:5 NKJV). So let us humble ourselves before God, my brothers and sisters in Christ, and not treat our acts of obedience to Him as some holy badge of honor. God does not need us. We need Him. We must submit to Him and obey Him with the right heart posture. There is no amount of work that we can do that will put us on the same level as God, which would be audacious to think anyway. Lastly, our works will never get us into Heaven. I will write more about that last statement in another blog post. Stay tuned.
